21 Nov Tampa Bay Rays at Los Angeles Dodgers MLB Pick – September 18th
Because they are in Los Angeles for game two of a set with the 30, the Tampa Bay Rays are finishing up their west coast road trip tonight. The Dodgers took game one last night 7-5, supporting a four-RBI night. Both teams employed a bullpen by committee approach and we saw a total of sixteen pitchers in game !
The Rays need to discover a way to win tonight as they hold only a half of a match lead over the Cleveland Indians. After starting out the month of September red-hot, winning eight the Rays have all the sudden hit a wall as they have lost four out of the last six. With reductions coming to from contention teams like the Texas Rangers and Los Angeles Angels.
The Rays must find a way to win tonightas a one is laid out just as by the schedule the rest of the way outside. Tampa has set from the Boston Red Sox and the New York Yankees before ending in Toronto.
For Los Angeles they have a whole lot to play as well, as they’re currently combating the Atlanta Braves to the number one seed in the National League. The Dodgers have taken good advantage of the Braves slipping only a bit up and have opened a five-game cause the best seed and need to discover a way to lock it down soon, so they can best set their rotation for the playoffs.
Beginning tonight to the Dodgers is Tony Gonsolin (3-2 2.83 ERA), and for the Rays it’s Brendan McKay (2-4 5.27 ERA). The game complete over-under is placed in eight and a half runs. The Dodgers are -127 home favorites. First pitch is scheduled for 5:10 PM PST from Dodgers Stadium in Los Angeles.
This really can be a fun matchup this day having a whole lot to play for, with a couple of promising young rookie pitchers on the mound. Both these teams are jockeying for playoff positioning, and we should see a playoff-like atmosphere tonight in LA..
Tony Gonsolin didn’t combine this Dodgers group and wasn’t a normal part until August of the turning. But he’s made a terrific impression. In six starts, he has an ERA of just 2.03, and he has yet to let more than two earned runs in any single start this year. He has not been used to get deep into games, because he’s used more because of hybrid starter/opener, usually pitching five or even four innings max.
But that’s been less about his outcome or his ability to throw a whole great deal of pitches, and so that the Dodgers have invested the last month or so experimentation with a bunch of young men trying to find out who will wind up on the postseason roster. That Gonsolin was pitching you can expect him to be pitching in October, if that is out of a beginner or the bullpen.
As is, brenden McKay is as blue of a prospect. He has been on a fast track to the majors since also had been the first number four overall choice from the 2017 MLB draft. He finally broke through in June with the group, in which he made his introduction by taking a perfect game into the sixth inning. But since that first begin, we’ve observed some growing pains for McKay.
Since the All-Star break, McKay has really struggled as he’s 1-4 with a 6.25 ERA. He is being used similarly to the way the Dodgers have employed Gonsolin, because the game is started by him, but is never expected to acquire all that profound. In his last three”begins” he’s lasted just a total of eight complete innings. In that stretch, he’s gotten blasted for ten runs.
This number makes absolutely no sense. The Dodgers might be the best team in all of baseball. Yeah, the Astros and the Yankees could lay claim to that distinction and you may make a case for the Braves, but my gut tells me that Los Angeles is the class of the match . To see them is shocking.
No disrespect to the Rays, they are a staff that is talented, and they’re very much in the playoff conversation from the AL, but the Dodgers have a contribute within the Rays right now. And when you have a look at the pitching matchup, Brendan McKay was dreadfully of the season. That very first great start, and also the simple fact is, propping up his ERA, that is great to being with at over fiver runs that many are unearned.
In his last seven starts, he has pitched only thirty-one and a beginning, and he has permitted a total of runs. Those are not great numbers. And when you look at that he’s played, he has faced clubs that were bad, such as Chicago White Sox, Toronto Blue Jays, Texas Rangers, San Diego Padres, and the Seattle Mariners.
One of his ten starts this year, nine of these have come from teams that won’t be making the playoffs. His only start from a playoff-caliber staff came way back on July 5th, plus he got hammered against the New York Yankees three runs in just five innings of work, and the Rays got blown out. Tonight, he will need to confront a Dodgers team which directs the National League in almost every offensive category.
I think Gonsolin takes benefit of this Rays team and pitches five or four innings. And I guess the Dodgers will leap all over Brendan McKay. We saw what stretches of the Rays bullpen seemed like last night, and it wasn’t pretty. If McKay can’t find a means four or five decent innings, this one can get out of hand.
